I want to explain this by an example, the food that is derived from animal sources, such as eggs, fish, meat, milk, and milky products, which might cause pain to that animal. Now you will ask, how milk is not satvic food? So the correct answer will be in this modern world, animals are abused to produce milk forcefully by giving injections or giving such a diet that can be against these animals, and therefore we recommend switching to a plant-based diet.
Full of Energy

If we expect more life than we have to depend only on something that has life, which doesn't mean being an animal. So when we plant a seed in the soil, it grows into a plant, and that is a living food. Similarly, all the fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, et,c are living food.
Whereas the food which are packaged, made in a factory, processed or kept and stored for long will not generate more life because it is dead food.
Food with Short Life

You should not consume such food which do not rot over time. Because the food obtained from nature is fresh when it is harvested, and it get starts to spoil over time, because it contains life force in to it.
Whereas if you have purchased the food from the store, such as chips packet, then it will not going to rot. Because many preservatives and chemicals have been added along with the food inside, which keep them fresh for a long time. But these preservatives decrease the life of our bodies.
Directly From the Farm

If you consume food which is been directly brought from the farm to your rasoi, that means the food is satvic. But the same food when it visits the factory and gets processed, then the time it get converted from food to product.
Here is an example: if you consume corn which obtained from the farm, it is satvic. But the same time, when the corn gets processed into corn syrup or packaged into corn chips, it turns into Tamsik in nature.
Food Should Be Free From Advertising

Have you ever seen a commercial advertisement for bitter gourd or Cucumber? Not right, but why? Because nature never requires promotions. So you should also be aware that a simple way to eat healthy is to ignore commercial advertisements.
Not only this, you should also ignore labels and stickers on the products that used to mention Nutritions, Proteins, Fats, Calories.
